Friday, September 21st, 2007

For those who don’t follow ‘Hip-Pop’ daily runnings. There is a new Jay-Z album due to land this November & here is a track taken from it. (produced by Pharrell) ps… what happened to Chad Hugo from the Neptunes?

MOBO Awards 2007

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

It was the MOBO’s last night here in London and as per usual there were very few surprises.  We’re glad to see the Jazz catagory back & also channel U favourites N Dubz win best UK newcomer.  Kanye finally got a Best Video Award so he had to bin that “I should have won” speech & chill.  No disrespect to Dizzee Rascal but we all know Wiley should have picked up the best UK Male gong.

Amy Winehouse performed & wasn’t too hot but don’t forget her killer performance from the Mercury’s a few weeks back.

(Read all About it).  Kanye West sure uses a lot of samples.  Not wanting to unmask any of his genius but when you have the money to clear songs like these you can’t really fail having the #1 album in the UK charts right now.

Play: Labi Siffre - My Song (sampled in I Wonder)

Play:  Michael Jackson - PYT (sampled in Good Life)

Shake A Fist

Monday, September 17th, 2007

From reading the weather report this morning, Summer is officially over. The festivals are distant druggy memories for some, but Hot Chip are back with a new joint called ‘Shake A Fist’ (a bit late - non?)

Truly a significant dance/electronic (with early hip-hop sprinkles) riddim.  Look out the synths… Afrika Bambataa needs to watch his back.

Released in September on limited 12″

Rustie

Monday, September 17th, 2007

In our world the word Rustie used to mean something that’s old & battered or old & round like Rusty Lee from 80’s TV.  But the game has been changed yet again with the arrival of Glasgow’s Rustie.

Taking cues from Dubstep, Hip-Hop & Electronica he’s a one man powerhouse.  Take note.  You might recall this track from the Hudson Mo mixtape a few months back. POW!

Bangers & Cash

Spank Rock & Benny Blanco are ‘Bangers & Cash’. Ignoring the cheesy pseudonym. It’s pretty nice hipster hop.

Cover Me Badd

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

It’s oh so cool to cover songs nowadays, from rare underground disco edits, to Mark Ronson style covers of Indie tracks. The thing about covers is that they’re usually great fun to listen to unless you’re a die hard fan of the original in which case you’re guaranteed to hate it - but what do fans know right?.

Peanut Butter Wolf has done this clever mix of bad covers for our listening pleasure.
