Blaise Bellville

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Rabble rouser, entrepreneur, DJ and promoter, Bellville was the mastermind behind the phenomenally successful All Ages gigs and the rammed out Joyride NYE party as well as the Troubled Minds parties back in the day. With a knack for inspired bookings and a knowledge of venues that are off the beaten track (the African Centre in Dalston?) his nights help make London happening.

Check his myspace and download his latest dancehall mix which racks up an impressive 53 tracks in an hour. Tracklisting here.

Of Montreal, an American pop band with a penchant for covers rework M.I.A’s Jimmy tune which was nicked from “Jimmy Jimmy Aaja”, a Bollywood track. It was written by Bappi Lahiri and sung by Parvati Khan in Hindi. Lahiri was inspired to write it after listening to 80s disco band Ottawan’s irksome single “T’es OK”.

M.I.A says of the song “My mum used to hire me out when I was a kid. It was my track that I used to do my routine to.” Apparantly she wrote the song about an invitation she received from a journalist while working in Liberia, to meet him whilst covering a genocide.

Just Premo!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Remember when this tune was really big when it came out the first time around? Well Premo has just remixed it. Also… it’s nuts that Mark Ronson won a Grammy this week. Will he still come & rock Yoyo or is that now over?

some mixes from Nottingham / London boys TOMB CREW. One reviewer described one of their sets as “lots of almost-raggatronic Brixton techno”. I dont know what the fuck that means but download and see for yourself. Look out for their Beenie Man refix ‘Inna Dat’ (might wanna look here: Tomb Crew Myspace)
