80’s Argentinian Rock

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

After this polaroid was taken my neighbour came over in his pajamas to complain about us playing this track too loud

Play: Nada Personal- Soda Stereo

Download: megaupload

A bar I frequented in Buenos Aires played it all the time and i feel it is pretty much the best song to dance in your kitchen to. The title means ‘nothing personal’ and it is my favourite song this week.

Zizek Sound

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I spent most of June in Buenos Aires, where I met Grant Dull, mastermind behind Zizek Sound at Niceto nightclub. Its dedicated to the emerging sounds of Hip Hop, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Cumbia, Bastard Pop, Mashups and more. I walked in and heard Santogold over some weird cumbia beat and thought fuck yeah this is interesting. Grant gave me a couple of copies of his compilation Zizek Sound. ‘This compilation is another step forward in consolidating this rich emerging scene and legitimizing this new hybrid and bastard genre we are calling ‘Digital Cumbia’.’ The Zizek guys are currently touring North America, here’s to hoping they make it to the UK, rumour has it that Prancehall has booked them. Props to DJ Vamanos over at Ghetto Bassquake who knew about this from time ago. and shout out to Bryce for the sickness whist I was away.

“I suggest you go see Zizek if you are ever in Buenos Aires on a Wednesday Night, It’s a Movement!”

The Escapist

Been a long time coming this… but if this track is anything to go by, the new Streets album is lining up to be a stinker. But don’t quote me on that.
